Last weekend St. Wilfrid's was celebrating God's gift of Creation. Creation envelops and surrounds us, in the air, earth, water, plants and trees, but is also all that we are; our bodies, minds, and souls and all of our talents and abilities. Wanting to celebrate all of these aspects of Creation, we gathered together on Saturday night
to appreciate the creative talents of our parishioners, listening to the songs of our musicians, and to recitals from the poets in our midst, in which we were treated to both works known and familiar, as well as original compositions. The beauty of the performances and the togetherness was a moving experience of God revealing himself through our brothers and sisters.
On Sunday we had a small celebration in Winckley Square Park, before the 10.15 Mass, in order to get closer to God's gift of Creation in the natural world. We prayed together and sang the hymn, Laudato si (“Praise to you”), before gathering from the park some symbols of the beauty of Creation. A basket filled with colourful leaves, branches and stones was brought in to the church and placed before the altar, to remind us and make us more conscious of how God blesses all that He has made.
